• Choose organic ingredients when possible and/or affordable.
  • Dishwasher safe is preferred, and essential for many tools.  Some items, like wooden or bamboo tools and boards should be chosen carefully and treated with care and never put in the dishwasher.

Necessities (things I’ve learned I need over the years)

  • Oven mitts, at least 4
  • 2 sets of measuring cups (at least one set must include ¼-cup, 1/3-cup, ½-cup, 2/3-cup, ¾-cup, 1-cup, 1½-cup and 2-cup sizes)
  • 2 sets of measuring spoons (at least one set must include 1 tablespoon, ½ tablespoon, 1 teaspoon, ½ teaspoon, ¼ teaspoon, and 1/8 teaspoon sizes)
  • Pyrex or Anchor Hocking liquid measuring cups (8 oz and 16 oz)
  • Pyrex mixing bowls, at least one very large “bread bowl”
  • Silicone spatulas in a variety of shapes and sizes
  • Wire whisk
  • Large cookie sheet
  • 8″ x 11″ glass Pyrex casserole dish
  • Mesh colanders in large and small sizes
  • Some sort of mixer – I did fine w/ a hand-held mixer until I received my Kitchen-Aid stand mixer as a wedding gift in 2008
  • Food processor
  • Tongs, multiple sizes, metal and plastic coated (for hard anodized cookware)
  • A giant “lobster-pot” (34-quart stock pot)
